Ineke van Harten (1959)
Born in Rotterdam / lives and works in Zwolle, the Netherlands.
Studied autonomous painting/printmaking at AKI (ARTEZ) in Enschede (1985–1989)
The works of Ineke van Harten are “solidified memories”—impressions of organic processes translated into oil paint. Sometimes impasto, sometimes transparent, her paintings grow layer by layer. Thick layers of oil paint are scratched, carved into, or smoothed out again. This is how abstracted landscapes emerge. Large formats, but also small. A world governed by its own laws. A world that, to her, must radiate poetry and beauty. A crystallization and preservation of all that is fluid and changeable. In search of silence and simplicity, she aims to capture something that has always been present. She calls them: inner landscapes.
She is also a poet and draws inspiration from poetry. Her many travels to Asia, as well as residencies in South India and New York, have also served as important sources of inspiration.
